Fans of barbecue should know that Parky’s Smokehouse, the brainchild of Lebanon locals Julie and Gary Parks, is well worth the trek up the highway to Indy’s neighbor to the north. At their new eatery, the couple covers all the basics—baby backs, pulled pork and chicken, turkey, sausage—and do so beautifully, smoking everything low and slow over hickory and apple woods. Even the simplest turkey sandwich is a star—thick and most and meaty—and, with a generous helping of tangy barbecue beans on the side, it makes for quite the hearty meal. The bigger entrées shine, too: Dry-rubbed ribs are hulking and meaty, Pecan Crusted Walleye is both tender and crunchy—and both are standouts on a menu
that ranges from the expected (ribeyes, chicken and pulled pork) to the unexpected (barbecue chili, barbecue nachos, smokehouse pizza and Coffee Crusted Ribeye). One of the best parts of a Parky’s meal, however, never hits the grill: If you go, don’t miss the Comfort Bread Pudding with Praline Sauce, served warm, butter-rich and velvety smooth. 2479 N.
